Mohammed bin Abdullah: Diabetes Treatment Consumes 15% of the Health Budget
During the opening of the Bahrain Diabetes and Endocrinology Conference, Dr. Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, President of the Supreme Council for Health, emphasized that diabetes has become a significant financial burden, consuming 15% of the Ministry of Health's budget. The conference, organized by Royal Bahrain Hospital with the participation of over 500 experts and specialists, highlighted the rising prevalence of diabetes in the region and the associated health challenges. Dr. Wiam Hussein, Senior Consultant Endocrinologist, pointed out that diabetes rates are projected to increase significantly across Gulf countries by 2030, necessitating enhanced efforts in prevention and treatment. The event also underscored the importance of technological advancements in diabetes care and the need for integrated strategies to manage the growing epidemic effectively.
