Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah: Diabetes Treatment Consumes 15% of Health Ministry's Budget
During the opening of the Bahrain Diabetes and Endocrine Conference, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah, the Chairman of the Supreme Council of Health, emphasized that diabetes has become a significant burden on the health system in Bahrain. Treating diabetes consumes 15% of the Health Ministry's budget, amounting to over 500 million Bahraini Dinars. The conference gathered over 500 participants, including experts, specialists, and physicians from Bahrain and abroad, with broad participation from military and civilian hospitals.
Dr. Wiam Hussein, a prominent figure at the conference, highlighted the growing concern over the rising cases of diabetes in the region, particularly with predictions that the number of diabetes cases will double by 2030. The conference also discussed advances in technology for diagnosing and treating diabetes and endocrine diseases.
Sheikh Mohammed underscored the importance of comprehensive health coverage and specialized clinics to manage chronic diseases, particularly diabetes, through initiatives such as promoting a healthier lifestyle. The need for improved diabetes care, early detection, and public awareness were key points in addressing the increasing prevalence of diabetes in Bahrain.
