Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah: Link Between the Spread of COVID-19 and Rising Diabetes Rates
Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Health, emphasized during a conference that the COVID-19 pandemic has contributed to an increase in diabetes cases in Bahrain. He highlighted the efforts of the national campaign to combat diabetes and endocrine disorders, noting that the pandemic's conditions have worsened complications for diabetic patients and increased their susceptibility to COVID-19.
The conference focused on new advancements in the treatment and diagnosis of diabetes, with experts discussing how the pandemic has accelerated the rise of diabetes cases. Recent studies in Bahrain revealed a 15% rise in diabetes cases between 2018 and 2019, highlighting the need for urgent attention. Sessions also explored the direct impact of COVID-19 on diabetes patients, with attention to complications such as heart disease, kidney issues, and foot problems.
New technologies, including insulin pumps and blood sugar monitoring through sensors, were discussed as essential tools in managing diabetes complications. Additionally, the conference served as a platform for showcasing innovative treatment options and research aimed at improving the quality of life for diabetic patients in Bahrain and beyond.
