New Hormone Therapy for Thyroid Cancer Patients Introduced in Bahrain

Dr. Wissam Hussein, a consultant in endocrinology and diabetes at the Gulf Diabetes Specialist Center, announced the introduction of a new hormone, Thyrogen (thyrotropin hormone), for thyroid cancer patients in Bahrain. This hormone, used for the first time in the Kingdom, aids in the diagnosis and treatment of thyroid cancer, especially post-surgery. It helps in the early detection of cancerous cells and avoids the need for patients to stop their thyroid hormone therapy, thereby maintaining their quality of life during treatment. The use of Thyrogen minimizes side effects and enhances the effectiveness of radioactive iodine treatment, crucial for the elimination of remaining cancerous cells
