Diabetes: 'A Burden on Health Budget'

The Supreme Council for Health Chairman, Dr. Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, revealed that 15% of Bahrain’s healthcare budget is allocated to diabetes treatment, emphasizing the significant financial burden it places on the health sector. The announcement was made during the Bahrain Diabetes and Endocrinology Conference (BDER 2020), where experts discussed the increasing prevalence of diabetes, particularly in the Middle East, and the need for more effective strategies to manage and treat the disease. The conference highlighted the importance of raising awareness, improving early detection methods, and implementing comprehensive treatment plans to reduce the disease’s impact. The event also stressed the need for regional cooperation and the sharing of best practices to address the growing diabetes crisis in the region.
