Middle East Faces Challenge with Rising Diabetes Cases

The World Health Organization (WHO) has raised alarms over the growing diabetes epidemic, predicting that the number of diabetes cases worldwide could soar from 177 million to 300 million by 2025. The Middle East, along with Africa, the Eastern Mediterranean, and Southeast Asia, is expected to witness a threefold increase in diabetes cases. In contrast, other regions like the Americas and Western Pacific are expected to see cases double, while Europe could see an almost twofold rise. This sharp increase is linked to the chronic nature of diabetes, which disrupts insulin production and leads to severe health complications. The disease, which is already the fourth leading cause of death in developed countries, presents a significant public health challenge in the Middle East, requiring urgent revisions in health priorities and strategies.
