Bahrain Ranks Fifth Globally in Increasing Diabetes Rates
Bahrain has been ranked as the fifth country globally where diabetes rates are rapidly increasing, according to recent statistics. The report highlights the alarming rise in diabetes cases, placing Bahrain among the top countries facing this issue, following the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and other nations. Dr. Wiam Hussein, the medical director of the Gulf Diabetes Specialist Center, and an endocrinology and diabetes consultant, discussed the rising rates, emphasizing the importance of early detection and management of diabetes. He also addressed the significant impact of diabetes-related complications, particularly on vision, heart, and vascular health, which are major causes of mortality among diabetic patients. The report calls for comprehensive health strategies to combat the growing diabetes epidemic in Bahrain and the Gulf region.
