Quarter of Adults in the GCC Will Be Diabetic

A recent study predicts that a quarter of the adult population in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries will be diabetic within the next 11 years. This alarming statistic highlights a significant increase from previous years, with Bahrain's diabetes rate already reaching 14.8% in 2007. The study, discussed at the first Bahrain Diabetes and Endocrine Diseases Conference, emphasizes the need for urgent action to address the rising rates of diabetes in the region. The conference, attended by healthcare professionals and government officials, focused on strategies to prevent diabetes through lifestyle changes, public health initiatives, and early intervention. Dr. Wiam Hussein, addressing the event, stressed the importance of comprehensive plans and collaboration among GCC countries to mitigate the impact of this growing epidemic on public health.
